Cross-Channel Measurement Has an Audience Consistency Problem

Written by Shannon Leiro, Head of Agency Sales, AMER | Oct 26, 2026
Agencies are under growing pressure to prove which channels deserve the next dollar. But before comparing channel performance, there’s another question worth asking: Are we actually comparing the same audience opportunity? A marketer might review social, CTV, and programmatic results, then shifts budget toward the channel with the strongest apparent performance. However, if each channel reached a materially different audience, it becomes difficult to know what actually drove the difference.

Measurement discussions often focus on attribution and reporting, but audience consistency deserves attention earlier in the process. Before marketers can confidently compare how channels contribute to a campaign, they need to understand whether those channels had a comparable opportunity to reach the intended customers.

If agencies want more meaningful cross-channel measurement, audience consistency needs to become part of the measurement strategy from the start.
